Northrop Grumman has begun mass production of the Mk44S Bushmaster automatic cannon, intended for the United States Marine Corps Amphibious Combat Vehicle.
The weapon will be integrated into the ACV-30 version via a remote-controlled turret supplied by Kongsberg, enhancing the platform’s offensive capability.
Designed to fire standard NATO 30×173 mm ammunition, the Mk44S extends the range, reliability, and lethality compared to previous models. According to the manufacturer, the system is also compatible with advanced munitions, providing greater efficiency against different types of targets on the battlefield.
One of the main advantages of the Mk44S is its modular architecture, which allows for the conversion from 30 mm to 40 mm caliber by replacing the barrel and specific components. This feature ensures greater operational flexibility and reduces future costs, eliminating the need for a full weapon system replacement.
Production is taking place at Northrop Grumman’s facility in Mesa, Arizona, already operating at a pace to meet the demands of the ACV-30 program. For the company, entering full-scale production represents a strategic step to strengthen the Marine Corps’ fire superiority in the face of increasingly complex threats.
